The beauty of the ice cube and bird’s nest stands out at night. Appreciated knowing the meaning behind the blue color and red color chosen respectively. Even the opera house with her changing colors is so beautiful. Tried some traditional dishes along the Hutong. Wonderful experience to see Beijing lighten up at night. Thanks to my guide Maggie and driver for the wonderful night tour.

First of all, private tours are the way to go. Yes, they are a bit more expensive, but you have the undivided attention of your guide and the opportunity to learn a lot and to really interact with a local person. If you can, ask for Barry. In two words, Barry Rocks!!!! In more than a few words, Barry is smart, engaging, funny, and very knowledgeable. Fluent English too!! This was my first trip to China and this tour was one of the highlights of my ten day trip. The Forbidden City is stunning at night, as were the Olympic venues. Included was a walk through a hutong.
