We were approached by a man in San Marco Square telling us about a free boat ride to Murano Island for a factory tour and a free boat ride back. I asked ahead of time how long we would have to wait for the boat ride back and he said 10 minutes at most. There’s boats going back-and-forth all the time. We got there and were assigned to a sales person who had us sit through demonstration which was extremely short. Maybe 5 to 10 minutes. Afterwards, there are showrooms and showroomsrooms of art glass and jewelry other pieces that are for sale “at a factory discount of 40%!” So we went through the process of walking through all the different rooms and at the end we did by a conservative pieceof jewelry. When our sales person took us back out to the dock for the boat, he strangely asked my husband if he was a teacher. In front of all of the personnel who was responsible for getting us back home. Which to me was “code” for telling the dockmen that we didn’t spend enough money. So we ended up sitting there for about 45 minutes until I had a minor fit after watching four boats, leave ahead of us. I got angry and so finally, they put us on the next boat back. The boat rides were great. but it’s definitely for the sucker tourists that we were today.

Was able to get in with little notice on a Sunday afternoon. Would have liked to see more examples. Was interesting but needed to see more.

Glass blowing was interesting but be aware prices in the shops are really expensive. Language bit of an issue with people from different countries on same tour.

It was good to see close up the working of the glass factory. We had some explanation on how to work the glass but I felt we could have seen more of the factory.

We were offered this trip through our hotel - complimentary. Private taxi to & from the island, private short tour of the factory & then through the showroom for us to look & buy, should we have chosen to do so. Our guide was on our shoulders the whole way round the shop which both my husband & I felt a certain amount of pressure. However with no price tags on the items we were not buying! Interesting to do as a complimentary trip & if you have a couple of hours to spare, otherwise I would not recommend it.

I suppose my opinion is a little skewed because I'm a glass artist but, this event wasn't worth it. The demonstration was very short and awful. The glass artist made a horse, and it was bad. I could tell he knew that he messed up halfway through and couldn't start over because it would look unprofessional to the audience. Tour of the factory - there wasn't one. We saw a gallery of random work. Some pieces were stunning others were terrible. I never received that free glass piece that was supposed to be a part of the event. I did end up buying something from the gallery. So at least, I got something positive to remember the trip.
