1. MedellinDayTrips
Colombia is the most diverse country in the world in fruit production as we grow over 430 fruits throughout our territory. This is why we think we should take you to a fruit stand to try some of the most delicious ones. In this short stop, we are going to visit a farmers' market so you can be in a non-touristy place. Once there we provide you different exotic fruits you probably didn’t even know existed, with intense sour or sweet flavors. This is around a 20 minutes stop that is on the way to Guatape but our guests have loved it so far, so we are sure you are going to love it too. It is also a good opportunity to stretch your legs after 1 hour of sitting in the car before we reach the coffee farm, our next stop.
2. Penol
The drive from the fruits to the coffee farm is around 35 minutes but is full of beautiful sceneries of kale plantations, onion, sugar cane, coffee, tomatoes and hundreds of mountains silhouettes. The coffee you enjoy each day has taken a long journey to arrive in your cup, with this complementary tour you get to know this amazing journey in detail. Right before getting to the Guatapé rock we have the opportunity to visit a wonderful coffee plantation which is definitely one of the most authentic tours you can do in Colombia. Between the time coffee beans are planted, picked and purchased, they go through a typical series of steps to bring out their best. The coffee production stages you will see are: • Planting • Picking the ripen beans selectively • Depulping • Fermenting and washing • Drying • Millling • Roasting
3. Penol
After this memorable visit to the coffee farm we continue our journey to the Rock of Guatape (also known as Peñol). As we drive we start telling you all the history of the rock: components, owners, when was it climbed up and more interesting facts. Once we get there you get the chance to climb up it. It’s 749 steps and 50 minutes approximately to go up and down. Once you reach the top, you can stay up there for as long as you wish as you witness one of the most beautiful views you have ever seen. This is not only our opinion but that of thousands of tourists we have taken there. At the top there are several shops where you can buy water, beer and many other items and sit down to appreciate the view of the lake, tiny islands and country houses. Whenever you feel ready to start going down we'll be ready waiting for you to continue our adventure to one of the most colorful towns in the country: Guatape town.
4. Guatape
The drive to Guatape from the rock is only 10 to 15 minutes. At this town we take a fully narrated walking tour through the town's landmarks such as the church, main square, remembrance street, Zocalos Square and more. Once the walking tour has concluded we take you to the best restaurant in town to have a traditional delicious lunch (not included in the tour) where you have more than 20 different options to try the local cuisine accompanied of a cold sangria or a craft beer. After we finish our lunch and walking tour in this beautiful Guatape town we head back to Medellin in our comfortable private car with a smile in our faces and full of good memories and probably some gifts for our family back home.

We had the most magical day exploring the beautiful town of Guatape, climbing the rock and sampling a nearby coffee farm. Erika was phenomenal and taught us so much about the local culture and Colombian history. Highly recommend if you’re up for a day time adventure with a one-of-kind guide (and some delicious coffee!).

This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Medellín - we strongly recommend it to anyone considering it! There are many tours that offer the coffee farm experience or the Guatapè/Peñol trip, but this includes both as well as a stop at a petting zoo with goats/alpacas

Juan picked us up at our lodging. We booked the private tour and this allowed us a chance to get to know Juan and also spend as much time in each place as we wanted. Juan was an awesome guide and it was fun to spend 10 hours with him. He was super knowledgeable with a deep insight into the history and nature of the area.

We feel lucky that we stumbled on this tour online and feel confident that this experience would appeal to anyone else looking for a day adventure outside of Medellin!

Erika was absolutely incredible. She was equipped with everything you could possibly need and had an amazing energy. She was super flexible and just gave us the best time. Would definitely use her again in the future.

What an amazing day! The tour itself was wonderful, but our tour guide Laura made it EXTRA SPECIAL! She was fully bilingual, accommodated our needs, and always had the best recommendations. If you are on the fence at all, don’t be anymore- this is your trip and ask for Laura! We are a family of 4, myself, husband, and two sons ages 14 and 12. We always felt safe and learned so much! The trip was magical! I felt as though I got to see a side of Colombia that I had never seen. The trip felt like we were being guided by a friend. It was personal and delightful in every way! Book this trip, enjoy your day, and then you’ll also be writing a review bc you just want to let everyone know- this is the trip to take!

Our guide Laura was AMAZING. She picked us up from our AirBNB and off we went for a day full of great conversations and exploring. Delicious fruit before climbing the rock and lunch after was delicious. Intimate coffee tour was so nice too. There was so much more but to sum it up…it was a perfect ending to our wonderful trip to Medellin ☺️.

This tour was excellent. We called and had it booked very last minute (literally same morning at 6am) and were lucky enough to have a tour guide, Juan. Juan is excellent -- his english is impeccable and he's super knowledgeable and fun. Having been on other coffee tours before, this coffee tour was definitely a highlight. It was highly personalized, they answered my endless questions, and we got to walk through each process in detail while picking the cherries ourselves. We wanted to also practice our spanish and Juan was patient enough to speak slowly in spanish so we could learn and then translate the parts we couldn't understand. Overall, highly recommend this tour and Juan!

Daniel did an amazing job teaching us about the culture and history of the areas we went to. He was very knowledgeable and accommodating on our private tour. He listed to what we wanted to spend more or less time on and tailored the day accordingly. Daniel did an excellent job teaching us about the coffee making process. He bought a lot of exotic fruits that we were able to taste. He’s very good at speaking English and we had no trouble understanding him. I would recommend Daniel for any of the tours he offers.

We had an incredible tour experience with Laura during our visit to Guatape. From the breathtaking views atop Guatape Rock to the charming streets of Guatape town and the immersive experience at a local coffee farm, Laura made every moment memorable.
The day started with a visit to a fruit market and exotic fruit tasting, then we headed to Guatape Rock. Sara provided interesting historical and geological facts about this iconic landmark, making the ascent even more rewarding. The panoramic views at the top of the rock were breathtaking
Exploring Guatape town was a delight. Laura guided us through its colorful streets, pointing out the unique and vibrant decorative panels that tell the story of the town's culture and history. Her knowledge of local traditions and her ability to connect with the community gave us a deeper appreciation of this picturesque town.
The visit to the coffee farm was a highlight of the tour. At the farm, we met Miller who shared his extensive knowledge about the coffee production process, from bean to cup. His explanations were thorough and engaging, making the experience both educational and enjoyable. Tasting freshly brewed coffee right at the source was a treat, and Miller & Laura ensured we understood the effort and dedication that goes into every cup.
Throughout the tour, Laura was warm, attentive, and professional.
I highly recommend Laura & Medellín Day Trips to anyone looking to explore the wonders of Guatape. It was an awesome experience.
