Explore one of the longest rivers on the island by taking a boat tour along the swamp’s main waterway. The Black River got its name from the darkness of the river bed caused by thick layers of decomposing vegetation. Cruise down the river in the midst of towering mangrove trees and lush plant life, while surrounded by crocodiles sunning alongside the banks. This trip will also have you viewing over 100 species of birds in their natural habitat. Be on the lookout for whistling ducks, egrets and other wildlife as you go along. Enjoy the scenic ride as you navigate the river with a local guide showcasing the true beauty of the island.

Located off the beaten path on the South Coast, you’ll arrive at the famous YS falls. Originally a cane farm with a working factory, YS Falls opened its doors to visitors as a nature-based attraction in 1992, offering the opportunity to experience the exceptional beauty of the waterfalls surrounded by magnificent gardens and trees. Driver Elton James was really interesting. It’s a very long day but worth it. Waterfalls were brown & fast flowing due to the amount of rainfall so wasn’t able to actually swim in the falls, only photos taken at the edge. At the Appleton Estate we had a great guide who was very engaging. Lunch was excellent . We did see crocodiles on the Black River but only 2 species of birds.

Great tour. It's an all day experience. Our tour guide Elliott was the best. He kept things fun and gave out great historical info along the way. I highly recommend.

My husband and I went on the Appleton Rum, YS Falls and Black River experience with our tour guide James. James was great and seemed to know alot .
The black river tour was not great - 3 crocodiles, 4 birds and then we got stuck in some weeds and had to turn back. The crocodile nursery was interesting.
due to knee surgery, I was not able to participate in the YS Falls experience but my husband enjoyed it. Our guide James was very attentive and made sure I had a good time while waiting for our group.
The Appleton Estate Rum tasting was very good, informative and yummy (both the lunch and the rum tasting). The prices were decent in the gift shop as well.

Brilliant day out, long day but definitely worth it. Our guide was very knowledgeable and kept us occupied on route to our first stop the crocodile safari. Definitely worth doing if you're a wildlife lover. We then headed over to YS falls, beautiful place, the local guides were amazing. They kept hold of our phones and took loads of photos for us. We finished the day with lunch and rum tour at Appleton Estate. Informative and fun 😁 thanks to our guide Elliot and driver Jimmy for a fun day x!

What a well organised, safe trip. Our tour bus and tour guide met us as arrange on time. Picked up other guests and we started our journey to the first stop, The Black River Cruise to see the crocodiles. Along the way loads of different information was given to us (very interesting) At the Cruise our tour guide showed us to our cruise. Off we went, the cruise guide was very good, loads of information regarding the river, birds, trees and of course the crocodiles. We finished the tour with a tour of the crocodile nursery. We then made our way on to YS Falls. Everything was explained to us again and we went. Wow what a fantastic place to visit and the YS guide was amazing, he took all our photos and videos, we went back just down to the changing area and was given snacks and bottled water. Off we went again to Appleton Rum, again our guide explained everything to us. When we got there we were able to try a run cocktail and then take to the restaurant for our meal. The meal of Jerk Chicken, Pork, Rice, Salad and Potato salad was fabulous. We the proceeded to the rum tour, very informative and enjoyable. At the end (the best bit) we went into a bar area and we were taught about how to smell, look and taste the rums. Finally got to the shop.
Thank you to all, you all looked after us so well and will highly recommend this trip with this company. Jayne & Adrian

All 3 events were great. Peter, our guide at Appleton Estates, was informative and had a great sense of humour. YS Falls was beautiful! The River Safari had a great tour guide with great stories. The river ride was amazing showing seeing many different plants and trees and the crocodiles- they even have names! The drive to get to these great places was long but well worth the experience.

All three main parts of the trip were excellent. We loved the boat trip up the river with the wildlife viewing, playing in YS Falls, and the very interesting tour of the Appleton Rum distillery. It was the only way we could have been able to do all of these, and especially not to have to hazard driving all that way. Or guide, Elliot was very attententive to everyone and made sure everyone was happy.

This was a fun excursion. The falls were beautiful and the guides take lots of pictures. The room tour was nice, drinks were good and lunch was good. The river tour was good, we saw a couple crocodiles and a bunch of different birds. Prepare for a very long day, the drive time from hotel and between locations is long. Ended up being a 10 hour day.

The appleton estate was great but the chukka company was horrible. I arranged with them weeks inadvance to meet up with by the tour at the appleton estate because I was coming from kingston. They told me to get to the appleton estate at 9am and my tour guide will meet me there. When I got there they was no tour guide and the people at the appleon estate told me there first tour don't start until 1030am. The appleton estate tour was very good experience. After tour I call the chukka company asking them where is my tour guide that suppose to meet me for black river falls and YS fall they told me there none I have to find my own transportation. I told them I don't have any transportation because person that drop off at the appleton estate won't be back for me until 4pm. They told me I have to figure it out on my own. I explained to the representative on the phone that I'm not from this country. Her respond was that not her problem. So I had to call a taxi which charge me 65 dollars to go from the apple estate to black river falls safari. When I got there and give them my reservation they ask me where is my tour guide I told them my situation they told me everyone that come from chukka company alway have a tour guide. The black river experience was great also then i had to paid 65 dollars for another taxi to take me back to appleton estate, so my driver from kingston 1 pick me up. My friend and I was terrified because of story in news lately and to know I called the chukka company for assistance and the left me stranded even though I made arrangements with them weeks in advance. This is poor customer service.i didn't he get to do the YS FALLS because I couldn't afford to so much taxi fare.
