Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product
Pass By: Culloden Viaduct, Inverness IV2 5EJ Scotland
After a half hour visit at Clava Cairns, we will pop around the corner to see the famous Culloden or Nairn viaduct, designed by Murdoch Paterson and opened as a railway crossing in 1898. It is a spectacle to behold – there will be photo opportunities.
Pass By: Inverness Castle, Castle Street, Inverness IV2 3EG Scotland
Journeying onwards through the city of Inverness we will pass the historic town hall and the Inverness Castle. There will be photo opportunities for the castle and Inverness Cathedral. You’ll be able to visit the castle viewing gallery and the shops, cafes or historic bars.
Photos only until 2024 as castle is being renovated.
Stop At: Cawdor Castle, Nairn IV12 5RD Scotland
Cawdor Castle is a lived in castle which is written about in Shakespear's MacBeth, when he refers to the Thane of Cawdor and the prediction. It has spectacular gardens and guided audio tours in your own language.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Stop At: Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre, Culloden Moor IV2 5EU Scotland
We will travel to the Culloden Battlefield, where the Jacobites lost many a soul in the 1946 uprising. This was the last battle to be fought on British soil. If time allows we will give guests a chance to walk on the battlefield. Depending on tour we may not stop but just drive by.
Duration: 45 minutes
Stop At: Loch Ness, Scotland
Going over the River Ness onto Loch Ness, where you need to be ready to spot our legend, Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster. Enjoy the comfortable ride by Loch Ness, which takes just around 30 minutes , searching for a sighting of Nessie herself. The last famous recorded sighting of her was a few decades ago, but we live in hope she will be photographed again soon. The scenery is second to none, so have your cameras ready. In recent months there has been footage circulated online of video recordings of an animal similar to Nessie playing in Loch Ness. We will stop at the Loch Ness lay-by for photos but it isn’t possible to paddle in Loch Ness due to the steep hillside location. You’ll travel past Loch Ness for 30 minutes enjoying it and waiting for a glimpse of Nessie.
Drive by for 20 minutes

It is also the location where Claire of Outlander fame, is supposed to have met Mairi. It is the true site of the burial ground for the chiefs of Clan Fraser of which the fictional character from Outlander, Jamie Fraser is related.
If time allows we will stop.

Mo was a great tour guide. Packed lots into this trip and saw everything we wanted and more.
However 8 people in a minivan is just too crowded especially when getting in and out multiple times.

Lovely tour guide. Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable.
The tour was labeled "Loch Ness Tour" which didn't involve ANYTHING other than driving by some water. We asked to get out and take some personal photos and he said we didn't have time. It was in the afternoon. Our next stop was to a small farm that had a sundry store, for 20 minutes. (It was obvious that there was a "kick back" to the tour bus company for stopping here.) We sat on the bus and waited, not interested in seeing cows and llamas. We have llama's and cows next door here but we don't have a Loch Ness monster. We didn't travel 5,500 miles to see llamas. We wanted to catch a picture with us and the Loch Ness water. We felt the advertising was a bait and switch and were disappointed. We had the time to stop but there was another agenda.

We had a wonderful day with Mo. This day was planned as the highlight of our cruise tours and it did not disappoint. Everything was wonderful and individualized to our needs! Too many experiences to mention them all. The Culloden tour was particularly meaningful and Mo brought the historical battle to life for us. Definitely recommend highly.

We were fortunate to have good weather on the day of our tour and everything went smoothly. Our tour guide Roy was very knowledgeable about the areas and sites we visited and shared interesting stories along the way. Time was limited at each stop due to the tour covering so many sites, but I feel it was sufficient to accommodate touring and shopping. I enjoyed this tour very much and learned a lot of Scottish history. Was sorry not to get a glimpse of Nessie, though!

I was so disappointed on this tour, first the disorganized queue for meeting points. We didn’t follow the order as advertised in the itinerary, and the microphone didn’t work half the time. But you advertise as an Outlander tour with only Colluden as the loan stop, and NO PLAN for lunch!!! We were starving, and To top it off we found we were not going to the Clava Cairns! For this price was outrageous! Then we go to Loch Ness there is no time for photo and the cows stop was useless. The tour is too spread out, and could be managed better. I feel it was no way justified for the price we paid today when compared to a tour by WowScotland who did go to Clava Cairns, had lunch, did the Cawdor castle, and paid half what I did. You need to do better, and I want a refund.

My husband and I had a wonderful time with JUNE on this excursion. We loved seeing the the ancient stones, the very old aqueduct, and of course, Loch Ness. We felt like we had known JUNE for a long time. We even shared recipes and stories. We would definitely recommend this tour!

The tour was great! the nice Maxime picked us up in the morning right across from the port. She gave us a lot of information during the tour and we had enough time to look around. Punctually one hour before the ship departed we were back again. Everything worked out great. We are very satisfied and can recommend Thistle Excoursuíons.
