Learn how this large pre-Colombian city played an important role in Mayan civilization from around A.D. 600 to 1200, and remained a center of worship and pilgrimage until the arrival of the Spanish. Even today, it is still considered a sacred site by the Yucatán peninsula’s Maya population.

Like many of ancient Mexico’s cities, the site was abandoned, and its ruins were hidden by jungle. Hear how the site was discovered and unearthed by archaeologists, gaining UNESCO protection and considered today one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Your guide will explain the philosophy, cosmology and mythology behind this ancient site, such as the meaning of the stone carvings, pyramids, platforms, ball courts and staircases.

We had an amazing day with Omar - everything went smoothly and Omar provided clear direction throughout (required clothing, footwear, etc and timeframes). Omar spoke in both Spanish and English during our tour - this was super helpful but could not have been easy so thank you for your efforts! We would fully recommend Omar and his team to our friends during upcoming trips to Mexico! :) the cenote was spectacular and of course, chichen Itza!!

Arriving before the crowds at Chechin Itza and heat was great and the Cenote was stunning. Our guide Frank was very informative. However a very long day. Trip was advertised as 4.30am pickup and 3.30pm drop off. We did not return until 7.30pm. No water available on the coaches.

The guide, Ramiro, was good. He shared important information about the Mayans and essential facts about the Chichen Itza. However, he lacks the initiative to help the guests in taking photographs. The driver, Jose, was also amazing. He drove smoothly the entire tour, despite the heat and the distance. I specifically chose this tour to avoid the crowds. However, the tour started late. We were supposed to be picked up earlier at 4:00am but we were picked up at 5:10am for the early access tour. But anyway, we still arrived before 9:00am so, it’s still a good thing. Also, the night before, the tour company messaged us and were asked to prepare 39 USD for the Chichen Itza tax, so we prepared the exact amount for our group. Then, when the bus arrived, the guide said it’s now $40! They should have told us in advance so that we can prepare the amount for the entire group! He didn’t even give us a receipt. So, just be careful with these “hidden” charges. The lunch included in the tour is a Mexican buffet. There were tacos, chicken, rice, beans, vegetable empanadas and a Mexican soup. Also, you are not allowed to go down the cenote unless you have a life jacket. You have to purchase it beforehand from the guide in order to receive a discount. If you purchase it on site, it’s a little more expensive.

Very good trip! Only critique I had was that I wish we had more time for the cenote and the buffet. The area is very nice and we only had about an hour and a half. I wish we had 2 hrs instead! It was also very nice to see chichen itza early! It was hot but def not as hot as the people that arrived when we were leaving!

We were picked up at our resort at the designated time. We opted for the early entrance to Chichen Itza which was the right call! The humidity and heat would have been more extreme during the later tour. We had a very friendly tour guide (Pastor) who shared a wealth of information on the Mayans and their life. The temples were outstanding. Glad we made the trip!!
