The ferry ride out was great.
The history of the Fort was fascinating. Seeing the distance between the islands and the fact those cannons could fire that far to hit Fort Sumter was awesome.

The boat trip across was very pleasant and afforded some great views of Charleston and the surrounding area. Fort Sumter itself was pretty amazing and learning the history was fascinating. The rangers did a really good job. I would skip the on board snack bar....overpriced as expected, but the hotdog was nearly rancid.

Having visited a number of American forts, this was disappointing. The significance in the location and situation as the spark to ignite a civil war is prominent in US history. The 15 minute presentation at the start was informative. The site itself unfortunately is nothing less than worn walls at the base with a few cannons and artillery present. It provides a walk along the perimeter and the grassy interior with the chance to view the ocean and the coast as well. Being there for an hour and fifteen minutes was MORE than needed. Having so little of the fort to witness made it difficult to appreciate what occurred here. 30-40 minutes would have been enough. This was our final Charleston experience on our fourth day and it would have been just as amazing a visit if we hadn’t visited the fort.

Rangers were great! Learned so much about how the civil war started. At Fort Sumpter you could just feel the spirit of the men who were there.

Captain could not dock the ferry due to high winds at Ft Sumter so we had to turn around. A waste of precious time for us.

We enjoyed the boat ride out to Fort Sumter. Unfortunately due to the winds we were unable to dock after multiple attempts. We were bummed out that we couldn’t get off to see the fort. We were given a full refund. 👍🏻

Go out on the first boat of the morning if you can - The visitors on that boat have the opportunity to help raise the flag in the morning. Staff and boat were excellent.

The park ranger was very knowledgeable. Loved the fact that you could walk around and explore on your own. Boat ride there and back was relaxing.
