Choose either 9:00am or 1:00pm based on your booking time and meet up your guide at centrally located meet point (see voucher for details).
First of all, visit the Bird and Flower Market where locals seek ideal pets and curios. One the way, walk through a food street, arrays of alleyways to see what are the top and seasonable dietary necessities at a fresh food market. Feel free to try some of the local snacks (at your own expense).
Pass the only remaining parts of old city wall, walk through a tract of old with new development around to reach a hidden local antique market in the commercialized Yu Garden (or City God Temple) zone. Carry on by weaving through around the crowds to get to the largest small commodity wholesale market (also for retail) adjacent to the Yu Garden. Finally, after walking through the Shanghai Old Street, you will end by a fabric market (tailors' market) for a happy ending.
En route, you can have lunch at a recommended restaurant pursuant to your interests.
Your guide will give you adequate instructions and advice, no matter you choose to stay, go to another place or return to hotel.

What a gem of a guide. The tour was informative about old-town, the culture, and the food. Harris met us at our hotel then we walked to the subway and our journey began. We walked through old-town, the Zig Zag bridge, the antique booths, and the market where the fish were alive and eggs were plentiful from many species of birds. Our half-day was plenty of time to get oriented in Shanghai. The only thing I would not have done was the walk through the floor booths where the merchants sold antiques on their mats. Other than that, the tour was great.

Harris Gu was our guide for 4 days in Shanghai and the surrounding area.
The day we got there (there were 6 of us0 he met us at our hotel and took us on a walking tour of downtown Shanghai. He was extremely knowledgeable, very friendly, spoke excellent English. He figured we were hungry and took us to have a lovely snack/meal where we were able to spend some time asking questions about Shanghai, his background and what the next three days would be. We went back to the hotel to rest and go to his recommended restaurant, which turned out to be wonderful.
