Pass By: Lisse, Lisse, South Holland Province

After a short ride from Amsterdam to the bulbflower area around Lisse, we start your tour by making a scenic ride in this area. Depending upon the season you see a landscape with colourful bulbflower carpets in almost any colour you can imagine. We try to find a spot where we can stop to make some pictures.

Stop At: Keukenhof, Stationsweg 166A, 2161 AM Lisse The Netherlands

Then we continue to the true highlight of this tour, the park Keukenhof. Once a mere kitchen garden filled with vegetables and herbs, the Keukenhof - smack dab in the middle of South Holland’s tulip region - now has the distinction of being the world’s largest flower garden, hosting some 800,000 visitors per year. This guided tour will take you through the 15 kilometers of footpaths and 32 hectares of gardens, where millions of bulbs are planted each year. Tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, and other spring bulbs of a variety of vibrant colours carpet the grounds. Stroll through the English landscape garden, the Japanese country garden, and the historical garden. Take in the flower sculpture, based on an annual theme.

Duration: 3 hours 30 minutes

The windmill village Zaanse Schans is an open air museum that houses a collection of working windmills, wooden houses, barns and shops dating back to the 18th and 19th Century. All these buildings were brought here from 1961 on, bringing back to life this most prosperous period of the Zaan region.

We had great weather and a comfortable ride on the bus. Our tour guide Jolanda was excellent . Gave us very comprehensive information of all the sights and even the culture and history of the country . Our driver Dick was very skillful and careful . . He was kind and charged my dead phone while the bus was on the road back . Appreciate both of them and highly recommend this tour!

They oversold the tickets. We were told to come back the next day. We asked for a refund. Someone in the office should start using an adding machine.

I highly recommend this tour and would do it again! First, I really appreciated the convenience of being bussed everywhere. Second, I appreciated the smaller cheese and clog tour vs. at the Zaanse Schans windmills, which was super crowded. The host (Steban) at the family run cheese and clog tour was hilarious and entertaining and included a cheese tasting and wooden clog making demonstration. And, then, of course, the Keukenhof garden was beautiful.

It was a bit stressful to find the meeting place ‘coz our hotel was not near the centraal station. Overall the tour was great & we had a great time despite the weather ( rainy, windy & some hail).

Fabulous value for this excursion from Amsterdam. Showed up at 9 returned around 5:30. Keukenhof was fabulous, tour arrived early enough in the day that it wasn’t so packed. Was much more crowded when we left at 1pm. If you’re traveling from abroad this is a very easy way to go see the park. Zaanze Schans was a bit more of just a tourist trap—very cool to see clog making and windmills, but if I were doing it again I would skip this portion of the outing. No fault of the tour group, we just were not expecting the unpleasant level of crowds at Zaanze Schans. Irma was lovely and kept us all in line and on time!
