Stop At: La Leona Waterfall Adventure Hike, 15m este de Soda Curubanda, Provincia de Guanacaste, Curubandé, 50105, Costa Rica
La Leona Waterfall is located in the small town of Curubandé, 20 minutes from Liberia in the province of Guanacaste. La Leona is a unique deep blue waterfall rooted between two canyons. It’s one of the few, if not the only, one in Costa Rica with this characteristic.
Its water comes from the “white river” or “Rio Blanco” that finds its source in the skirts of the Volcano Rincon de la Vieja. The color of the water is just amazing, between blue and turquoise, which is explained by the presence of sulfur. It’s definitely a must in this area!

We did a private tour and I cannot say enough good things about this company! Vladimir was our tour guide and he was accommodating with our request to go early. Very beautiful hike and waterfall. The hike was definitely moderate and not for those with poor mobility as the elevation varies.

This is our first trip to Costa Rica. We were excited to visit La Leona Falls and experience the adventurous hike. Our guide, Jonathan, made the hike extra special by pointing out birds, butterfly’s and other nature points of interest. He helped us through the moderately challenging parts of the hike and we reached the beautiful waterfall safely. Thanks to Jonathan for making this hike fun and informative.

We had the best experience hiking to the waterfall.. it was beautiful! Alex was very personable & so sweet! He made us feel very comfortable & had us experience a water slide! 10/10 would recommend.

Aaron was such an amazing guide, it felt like I was hiking with a friend. He was very nice and stopped to teach us about animals, trees, plants, and took all the photos we wanted. He was fun and a made the experience to the waterfall so much more special.

Aaron was our guide, he was so knowledgeable about the wildlife in the area and was very diligent to make sure that we didn’t feel rushed and hiked safely. It was like hiking with a friend.

My two friends and I got incredibly lucky to have Aaron as our tour guide. Not only did he speak English very well, but he taught us about Costa Rican culture and was very easy to talk to, making the hike go quickly. We did the private tour as one of us has a weak ankle/foot and wanted to be able to take our time. I cannot recommend a private tour with Aaron more, he knew so much about the wildlife (species and fun facts) and also about the vegetation (stopping to show us trees and plants that were very cool). He was very patient with our slow pace and helped each of us over every obstacle. Even the more difficult terrain was easy with Aaron’s help. The actual waterfall was breath taking and so worth it. 10/10 would recommend !
