Lake Mývatn and the area around it features countless noteworthy natural attractions including lava fields, hot-springs, craters and more. We visit Námaskarð volcanic landscape.

Stop At: Dimmuborgir Lava Formations, Lake Myvatn Iceland
Stroll on the walking paths through this lava field which features stunning rock formations formed in ancient eruptions
Duration: 45 minutes
Stop At: Skutustadir, Skutustadir, Northeast Region
Stunning grassy craters by Mývatn lake
Duration: 45 minutes
Stop At: Námaskarð, 660, Iceland
Námaskard is a volcanic region with boiling mud pots and the odour of sulphuric steam emanates from the earth. The minerals in the water have added a rusty color to the rocks and soil here.

Pickup and dropoff at the parking lot on the corner of Laufásgata/Gránufélagsgata just outside the Akureyri Harbor Cruise Terminal.
The tour starts at the same time as pickup.

A long day with a variety of sceneries. Godafoss waterfall was quite amazing, though we shared with experience with hundreds of others. We went onto seeing many "moonscape" looking areas with steam vents and mud pots, along with lava structures. Some reminded me of Yellowstone, but in all a very unique day.

We had a good trip, loved the mud pots and geysers. Our tour narrator and driver were punctual and interesting. They ended the trip with a playlist of passengers favorite music. Nice touch. Disappointed though, we thought we would be going to the baths and were told that wasn’t included on our ticket.

Wow, Iceland is incredibly beautiful. This tour covered all the types of geological areas; waterfalls, hot springs and the amazing lava formations at Lake Myvatn. There is a decent amount of bus travel to get to the sites, but worth it. Our guide was very informative and walked some of the sites with us to explain things in detail. He was always eager to answer any questions. There's some walking, but not too difficult or far.

This was our second Viator tour, and it was by far the best tour we had in Iceland. That was due in no small part to the excellent guide we had (and I’m so sorry I don’t remember his name…Icelandic names of both the people and cities have been difficult for us!). He was so informative about every site we were seeing as well as about the history of the country.

Participants need to be supplied with protection against the midges (small nonbiting insects that swarm around your face) or at least warned in advance so they can purchase their own.

This trip could have been so much better if the driver would have considered the travelers needs. It would have been better if we spent more time at Godavoss vs craters. The driver should have let us know how long between rides and that there was a bathroom on board, he should have told us about lunch being served before the stop instead of after a long stop, where i bought my own lunch. The Windows were DIRTY and then he must have tried to clean them after the 1st stop and made it all smudgy and was worse and I could not take a decent picture out the window. The driver could have announced how long the stop would be while we where still on the bus, but he wasted our time and waited until we were all off the bus to make his time announcement. Basic information could have been shared ahead of time for us to make better use of our time. Wasting time in line for a bathroom when there was one on the bus would have been nice to know. Our Driver Tom made it all about him and with a little thought he could have made this a great trip. I would have loved to know about the knatts and that they sell nets at the shops before I got all bit up and inhaled a bunch of bugs. Maybe this guy was new but informing him of his missteps will make it better for future customers and perhaps he might get more tips. We always tip our drivers but this guy was not good at all.

Our guide was fantastic knowledgeable and was very patient with some late comers. He had a great sense of humour and made the trip for me. I liked that he grew up in iceland and could talk from his own experience
