Explanation on Shodo (5min)
Explanation of brush, paperweight, Sumi(ink), Suzuri(ink well), Hanshi(thin paper). We explain how to hold and care for a brush before you write.
Practice basic strokes (20min)
Practice some very basic strokes that form Japanese Kanji (Characters) : Vertical, horizontal, diagonal and more.
Practice copying example kanji.
Practice your favorite word (20min)
Choose your favorite kanji (Character) and practice.
Hands-on experience to write beautifully by yourself.
Write it on shikishi (traditional card) (10min)
Write your favorite word on shikishi. We apply Rakkan (traditional stamp) to complete.

The house was lovely, traditional and cute, and the calligraphy crash course was so fun! The ladies directing the class were so encouraging and positive. They spoke English and were very helpful. We brought home a beautiful handmade memory of our trip to Japan!

I had a private class with Chie and she was amazing, explaining everything very clearly. The studio is beautiful and in a lovely part of Kyoto. Also, the adjoined coffee place is extremely nice.

I'm so glad that I saw the signs of this place while walking around in the street.
Making the onigiri with my mom was so fun, and all of the food was delicious. Everything feels so fresh and healthy.
The attitude of the staff here is super nice and welcoming!

Such a great experience with our teacher Chie sun. She was so nice, patient and great educator. I went with my daughter and that was one of the best way to experience Japan culture
