Pass By: Great River Road, Louisiana

The Oak Alley Plantation is located 70 miles or about 1 hour 10 min from the French Quarter. Travel along Great River Road and marvel at the antebellum mansions.

Stop At: Oak Alley Plantation, 3645 Highway 18 Great River Road, Vacherie, LA 70090-7079

You will spend approximately 2 hours at the plantation. The house tour will be about 35 minutes in length. The Oak Alley plantation house tour is provided by Plantation tour guides. The remainder of your time will be spent with self-exploration of the grounds. If you use your time wisely, you can grab a sandwich at the gift shop for lunch and still have time to walk the grounds. You'll then be brought to the swamp tour dock for your next adventure.

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Barataria Preserve, Marrero, LA

On this tour, you will experience the best of both: an informative swamp tour and high speed thrill airboat ride. You will travel at high speeds in the airboat then slow down and stop for pictures. Your Captain will give you a tour of a life time explaining the culture, animals, and the swamps. You may even experience a close encounter with some of the local swamp life. My mum and I had a fantastic time today on the Oak Alley Plantation and Large Airboat Swamp Tour. Keith was our driver and took great care of us. It was a comfortable and enjoyable ride. The plantation was gorgeous, and the air boat ride was a lot of fun! Captain Dewey took us out for a great ride, and I counted 13 gators up close before I stopped counting. The air boat ride has been the best New Orleans tour I’ve done, my mum and I highly recommend this experience!!

This was a terrific day and we would highly recommend it to others. Pickup on time and a great bus trip out to Oak Alley. Oak Alley Tour was very well organised and interesting, particularly the slave accommodation and all the stories told there. Swamp Tour was great. Our guide was very knowledgeable and informative. The swamp was really scenic to tour around and we saw lots of alligators. Excellent bus trip back delivered us right to the hotel, even though the driver had never heard of it! He was great fun and added to the enjoyment of the day.

I don’t think ive ever seen a more beautiful property. The view of the trees lining the pathway to the front of the house was breathtaking! It was everything I thought it would be and more. Definitely would recommend to a friend.

This was a long day 8 hours . The bus makes lots of stops for pick up and return . I must admit that the plantation to me was not that impressive. The grounds were beautiful. The best part was the Airboat Swamp tour . A wonderful experience with excellent history about the area and the alligators 🐊. Our guide was excellent.

I rated this a 4 simply because the airboat swamp tour was amazing. We had so much fun and got to see alligators and learn more about them from our guide. Highly recommended experiencing this! The plantation house/grounds were absolutely stunning but the tour itself was very disappointing - there are large groups (30) and we were herded in and out as quickly as possible. Our guide was very nice and did his job well - not his fault the groups were so large and he had to stay on schedule. There were several groups inside the home at one time. Since we signed up for the plantation & swamp tour, we opted to grab a bite at the plantation site since that would be our only time to eat and by doing this we didn’t have time to explore the grounds or spend much time looking through the slaves housing. The majority of the tour involved bus rides and we were shuffled onto several buses throughout the day. We did like that they picked us up where we were staying and dropped us back off. I would recommend the swamp tour and I would recommend a plantation tour but not in the same day. I would also try to find a plantation tour with smaller group tours.

Airboat ride was awesome! Planation was beautiful (mint julep at the bar was better than the one at the big house) just beware you spend a decent amount of time on a bus driving between locations (on average about an hour to each location). Nice way to see more of just New Orleans!

The whole trip was sensational, however I thought the swamp tour was next level. We opted for the airboat tour which I highly recommend and our swamp tour operator was a guy called Dewey. He was extremely knowledgeable about the swamp lands and knew all the spots, can’t thank him enough.
