One of the most memorable experiences of our trip to Argentina. We walked so close to the pinguins. The tour guides were very knowledgeable, friendly and professional and they had the safety of the birds as top priority, ensuring we all followed the rules.

Do it. Do it. DO IT. This is a MUST DO in Ushuaia area.
Don't think you're walking on some island with the penguins 50-200 meters away with decent views. Nope. You're walking AMONG THE PENGUINs so close that you have to watch where you walk to NOT collapse the underground nests! You can hear them. You can see them in detail. You can SMELL them. You're practically a PENGUIN on this trip/tour.
Quick boat ride gets you out to the island. Easy time getting from small boat to the shore, and the guides helped ALL that asked to disembark. Once you land on the pebble beach of Isla Martilllo... there. they. are. Penguins at every turn with their crazy cute walk and their interesting calls (think a donkey for one and Chewbacca from Star Wars for the other). You'll have an hour on island to talk a MILLION photos and videos.. and you will NOT have to zoom that camera or cell phone of yours. Just point and enjoy.
This is a LIFE EXPERIENCE. It seems priced high, but you won't find a better opportunity to walk among 2 of the 18 penguin species on earth. FANTASTIC.

Walking amongst the 7000 strong colony . The museum was also very interesting and the local guide taught us a lot about the differences between the various classes of sea mammals .

We loved this tour. If you want to get close to penguins, this is a great opportunity see, smell and hear them in their colony.

To be able to get close to pengiuns without harming them is a real treat. We got to see Gentoo and Megellanic pengiuns and 1 King. The tour guides were excellent. The only problem with this tour was the lack of communication on where to meet which we found out from the tourism office. Also the description of this excursion didn't mention it was a 90 minus ride each way. But it was still worth it

To walk and interact with the wild penguins in their native environment was beyond spectacular. The guides were a perfect group that willingly shared the history of the area and facts about the penguins. It was a day I will always remember. Thank you!!

Very fun experience touring with Joe Gentee tour company. Pickup at Ushuaia Port. A well spoken tour guide introduced us to all the landmarks, and then took us to smaller group vehicles, that we proceeded to the remote penguin colony area . Wonderful experience with the local family owned venue . A truly must see.

Highly recommended. It does seem a bit on the expensive side but we thought what we paid was worth it in the end. We opted for the full day option which comes with a penguin tour + channel navigation. They take you to Estancia Harberton in a comfortable bus. Half the party goes to Isla Martillo to see the penguins and the other half spend time at the estancia and then they switch. The penguin tour itself was wonderful. My only complaint is that for some portion of the tour, we are too close to the penguin nests and some careless and ignorant tourists in the group can be a little out of control. I just wish there was a better way to control the instagram crazy folks out there. The check-in process at the pier was smooth. I did not fully approve of the separate ARS 10,000 per person estancia entry charges and the ARS 900 per person boarding fee on the top of the USD 300 per person for the entire experience but anyhow it all seems to fade away when you see those little birds hopping around you. The second half is a very relaxed cruise in the Beagle Channel. They take their time showing you various species of mammals and birds on the little islands. The guides were knowledgeable and friendly. I just wish people paid more attention to what the guides were sharing instead of impatiently pulling out their phones and cameras and taking pictures over each other's shoulders. I got heaps of excellent pictures of the animals and the landscape as well! It is truly stunning and beautiful all around.
Book in advance as they may run out of spots! This expense was totally worth it.
