We booked onto a combined tour, in the morning we visited Pompeii with Carmine and the afternoon we visited Vesuvius with Mario.
It soon became apparent that 2 hours in Pompeii was not enough time but Carmine did his best to ensure that he gave us a great insight into Pompeii took us to key sites in Pompeii
The tour guides were both brilliant but the companies organization was not so good.
At Pompeii they wasted time waiting for everyone to turn up before putting them into groups. Thankfully we went into the 1st group so didn't lose too much time.
We were sent email instructions asking us to meet up at 2.30pm for the Vesuvius tour, it turned out we should have been at the meet point earlier. Thankfully Mario called us and we headed to the meeting point and whilst he contacted another couple who had been given the same instructions, I managed to quickly buy something to eat.
Mario & the mini bus driver took us to Vesuvius
Where we walked up the volcano and met up with the geological tour guide who gave us a talk and the crater.
Mario was friendly and very knowledgeable of Vesuvius and the surrounding areas. He engaged with all members of the tour. He showed interest in the plans you had for the rest of your trip and made food & visit recommendations to make your stay even better. We really enjoyed our trip to Vesuvius and would highly recommend the walking tour.

Really enjoyable especially hiring Pompei and Vesuvius in the one day , although it can be a long day so try get a good rest the day before .
We brought water/ energy drink which was well needed thought the tours.
and a sandwich / nuts which was nice to chill out for a quick snack on the bus to Vesuvius and at the summit of Vesuvius .
The tour guide of Pompei was really nice and informative . And such an amazingly well preserved way of life .
Our guide Rafaela was very knowledgeable and packed the entire two hours with super interesting and specific information. She was also lovely and funny keeping the group together and asking random questions , which made for a great time.
She is also very passionate of Pompei , and if she sees people walking/doing things in areas where they shouldn’t, she promptly , politely and assertively advises them on what they should and shouldn’t do which is nice to see .
The tour guide of Vesuvius catered very well to all the different participants needs , taking regular breaks as needed . And provided some nice information along the way .
Highly recommended 👌👌

In the morning, our group was led by Paolo. I really appreciated his knowledge and ease in answering questions from members in our group. He took us to some remarkable place. The tour ended within the park and he suggested some sites to visit on our own. Paolo was awesome.
In the afternoon, Mario took us to Mount Vesuvius. He provided general knowledge of volcanoes and specific information and history about Vesuvius while on the drive to the mountain. He was most knowledgeable. Once at the mountain, he led us on the steep climb to the crater’s edge. I appreciated his respect for all of our abilities, ages, and physical fitness. You were super, Mario!

Nicoletta, our guide in Pompeii, was incredible! She was extremely knowledgeable, was more than happy to answer any questions, and taught us about how to start identifying the various structures on our own. We didn’t have time to go to some of the further landmarks such as the amphitheater and Garden of the Fugitives with our group, but we had enough time after the tour ended to explore those places on our own. It was an extra treat to be able to see the newly opened areas and hear about future excavations.
Mario was our hiking tour guide for Mt Vesuvius and was great! It was definitely a hike up, so be prepared for that. But he made sure to stop to not only give us breaks but to explain everything we’re seeing around us. Learning about other eruptions than just the one of 79AD and how those changed the actually structure of the mounts were fascinating!
We had a great time and would happily tour with Nicoletta and Mario again.

Alessandra was an incredible tour guide for Pompeii. She had an answer to every question, was easy to understand, was a compelling storyteller and so engaging. She was just amazing! Mario was a wonderful guide up to the top of Mount Vesuvius. We really loved getting to know him and he shared his vast knowledge of the area so well. Would definitely request both of them again!

Antonio was the highlight of our tour - he's so passionate about his job and it comes across. Great explanations and takes time answering questions . He extended the tour by 10 minutes so we could take a look inside a house which was an added bonus, the ruins are a must see. Mt Vesuvius tour with Mario and Giovanni was also great, a 25 minute elevation but rest of the hike is easy! All tour guides were incredibly friendly and easy going. Would recommend to try to do both in the same day but if only limited to one excursion would go to the Pompeii ruins!
