Itinerary

Stop At: Pompeii Archaeological Park, Porta Marina (via Villa dei Misteri), 80045 Pompeii Italy

See Pompeii’s ancient piazza and Forum, where business dealings, elections, speeches and processions would have played out during Roman times. Wander the site, marvel at the ancient limestone columns still standing today and capture the centuries-old scenery on camera.

Continue onward with your guide to the thermal baths, where many of the townsfolk would have bathed, chatted and lived out their daily lives before the eruption. Wander down Via degli Augustali and discover the Lupanare, Pompeii’s brothel. A 2-storey building with five rooms on each floor, the Lupanare is decorated with some of the city’s most lustful frescoes.

Your exact route will depend on the crowds and weather conditions.

Simply amazing to see what was left after the eruption. Very glad we had a guide to go over the history and background of Pompeii! It was crowded that day so but worth it.

This tour was just the right amount of time. We were met right outside of the security gate at the port, climbed on a bus to go to Pompeii. We had a very good tour guide, and as long as we stayed in range, we could hear her thru the earpiece. She carried a bright green umbrella so we knew where she was. The actual tour took right at two hours. We had time to take pictures and time to have some gelato before we got on the bus. Pre prepared that the entrance area is full of vendors, and they have a captive audience. A dish of gelato will cost about 10€. That is not the tours fault, just an observation. We had about 30 minutes before the bus left. Temp was 72 F. I would not have enjoyed it, had it been mid summer when temps could reach 100 F. We saw about 1/4 of the excavated sight. The only other part that would have been cool to see would be the big amphitheater that Pink Floyd played in 50 years ago.

When we booked the tour it was advertised as a minibus tour giving us the impression that it would be a small group easily manageable for us. From the very beginning we were rushed. My wife uses a walker and we were never told we might have an issue keeping up with the group. When we got on the bus the driver started driving and we had not even gotten to our seats yet. My wife almost fell from the sudden driving. When we got to Pompei the group of maybe 50 got ahead of us and we had a hard time keeping up. Finally we had to just abandon the tour because we couldn’t go fast enough and they didn’t slow down enough. There was no consideration for the fact my wife couldn’t keep up. Never again. You should tell people with walking issues to reconsider your tour.

Guide was informative and did her best but it was extremely crowded on site so we often had to wait for other groups to move forward. Toward the end of the tour a torrential downpour came and we went to the gathering area to wait for busses but there was aboslutely no protection from the rain. For 25 minutes we got drenched. This is not the tour operator's fault but should be noted for anyone going when rain is predicted. We got less than the two hours promised but the crowds and rain were factors. My best advice is to go off season. Also you must combine a visit to Pompeii with a visit to the Archaeological Museum in Naples which is where all the statues, murals and everyday artifacts are on display. There is little more than ruins to see in Pompeii.
