Many other facilities have undertrained instructors who can only teach tourists. Your instructor here, the modern-day Musashi, has over 100 students nationwide and over 20 years of training experience.
▶︎The venue is a real dojo (training hall for martial arts)
We are not a tourist spot, but a real dojo where more than 20 students train regularly. Just being able to enter the real hall where modern samurai train their skills is a rare experience.
▶︎Everything is interpreted in English perfectly
Shogo from the YouTube “Let’s ask Shogo (1.6M subs)”, who is a student of this dojo himself, will interpret everything in English perfectly. Any questions you have about Budo martial arts and Japanese culture/history will be answered.

By far, one of the best activities and an overall highlight of our trip was the Samurai Training class. If you want to learn the proper way of handling a katana and live out the happy starting moments of your favorite anime, this is the place for the lesson.
As stated in the description, this is not an experience; it is a martial arts class where the instructors teach you one to two katas of their style using a real katana. On my next trip to Kyoto, I would gladly come back to take another class with them.

Wow - that was so much fun. We loved Yushi Sensai & guide Shogo. Really a brilliant intro into Samurai, with plenty of hands-on opportunities and Shogo's perfect english and great energy. If you only book one experience in Kyoto, make it this one!

Yushin sensei and his trained pupils are very clearly experts in their art and explain things clearly. They make sure you are learning and having fun while doing so! This is a legit dojo that offers lessons online as well!!

Yushin Sensei, Osaka, and Shogo were all amazing during this experience! My husband and I learned a lot about samurai history and how to safely handle a real katana. The best part of this training was how authentic everything was. If you want to experience what it’s like to train with true professionals, book this training! It was truly a highlight of our Japan trip! Thanks again Yushin Sensei, Osaka and Shogo!

This was such a great experience, I booked it thinking my son would enjoy but I honestly think I loved it as much as him! The experience feels so authentic as you are in a real dojo with real samurai instructors. It was a very small group (only 6) with several instructors who were all very knowledgeable, skilled and patient. We had a proper lesson learning some real skills, followed by using a real katana to cut tatami mats. The session was 2 hours and contained so many interesting facts, a real highlight of our holiday. Would highly recommend.

Learning about the history and discipline of the Samurai way. The teacher was great and so were his demonstrations. We got to practice some of the Samurai moves which made me appreciate that it’s not as easy as it looks. A lot of discipline and control is required.

Was really worth it getting to know a bit about the samurai culture and training as a real swordsman! All the staff were extreme friendly and fun! Highly recommend it! It’s a must for anyone coming to Japan!
