The Lion King musical tells the Hamlet-like tale of Simba, prince of African lions, who battles his evil Uncle Scar for the throne. But before Simba can take his rightful place in the "Circle of Life", he grows up with his two fun-loving friends, wisecracking meerkat Timon and smelly warthog Pumbaa. Together they teach Simba their philosophy of life, "Hakuna Matata" (No Worries).

Based on the 1994 Disney film, and book by Roger Allers and Irene Mecchi, the musical includes the Oscar-winning song "Can You Feel the Love Tonight." Additional songs are by Hans Zimmer, Lebo M, Mark Mancina and Jay Rifkin.

This visual feast is famous for director Julie Taymor's complex animal-puppet-human fusion, and is loved by audiences of all ages.

An excellent production with very creative costumes/puppetry and very strong performances. The cast clearly have a blast performing and had such great energy. My daughters loved it! As you would expect, the tickets were expensive, but it was then a shame that the theatre charged such high prices for drinks/snacks (far more than restaurants/bars in Times Square) and we were also asked to make a charitable donation. All in all, a very expensive evening!

The show exceeded my expectations and gave me goosebumps start to finish. The show was well written with an interval half way. I would 100% recommend the lion king to those who visit New York.

What a show! SImply AMAZING! My son (just turned 8) and daughter (almost 5) LOVE this Disney movie. My daughter listens to the Lion King Tonie every night before bed and our trip to Animal Kingdom and stay at the Animal Lodge last year is still fresh in their minds. It seemed appropriate that this be their first Broadway Experience. It did not disappoint! Tickets are VERY pricey though. When we arrived at the theater @30 minutes before the production, the line was wrapped around the building, but it moved fast and we got to our seats quickly. The costumes were unbelievable! We had a tough time deciding on our favorite animal/character. Music is fabulous as well. It is a long show (2 and half hours with one intermission), but my children were engaged the entire time. So glad this was their first Broadway experience! Definitely recommend this play!

Just wow, what a show. Not a huge fan of musicals but never been to one on Broadway and as we won tickets on the Broadway lottery, we decided to go with the plan to probably leave at half time. We did not leave. The show was absolutely amazing from the actors, the choreography and especially the costumes. The actor who played young Simba is a future big star for sure. I really am so glad we went as would not have missed it. I think I have developed a new love of musicals thanks to this show. The venue was great also.
