Tikal was spectacular and the logistics worked pretty much as expected. However, there were a couple of small glitches throughout the day and if I didn't speak a bit of Spanish I think I would have been a bit more on edge.
For example, my driver didn't meet me at the agreed on meeting place when I got back to the airport. I had to connect with him by phone and summon him to the correct place. Then when we got to my hotel he couldn't find his way to the hotel so I eventually had him let me out of the car and I walked the final 10 minutes to the hotel (easy with google maps)
Also Viator's messaging was confusing. Got multiple emails before the trip that were all slightly different. Was pick up at 4.15? Or 4.00? Or 4.15-4.30? Lots of little details like that created unnecessary angst on an otherwise great day

Everything was nicely organised.
Driver picked us up from hotel at 4.15 am, dropped us at La Aurora airport with instructions to go to TAG airlines counter. Check in was easy. Guide picked us up at Flores airport. Tour was good. Total walk was about 7km.
Lunch provided was very good.
Dropped us back to the airport in the evening. Flight back to Guatemala City and the same driver picked us up and dropped us back to the hotel around 6.30pm.
Long day, but totally worth it.

I am sharing this picture of our guide as he was FANTASTIC. Very knowledgeable about everything from the ruins to the wildlife we saw - 2 kinds of monkeys lots of birds which he identified and also spotted visually or hearing their calls. Great experience even though our flight was delayed by 3 hours. I did not get our guide's name so can't give a personal review though wish I could give him 10 stars

This is a long day for sure, but worth it if you want a day trip from Guatemala. Early morning pick-up at my hotel was on-time and I had plenty of time to check-in and get to my flight. When we landed in Flores, we had about an hour before departing so there was time for breakfast and coffee in the airport cafe. Luis was a great tour guide who was very knowledgeable about Tikal. I liked that he gave us optional time to climb to the top of the temples, allowing time for others to rest at the bottom. I climbed every time and it was wonderful. The lunch was great and I made it back to the Flores airport on-time for my flight back to Guatemala City. When I arrived, someone met me with my name on a sign.

It was a great experience from the hole of the howler Monkees to the magnificence of the Mayan temples rising out of the jungle

This was a fabulous day trip. What made it extra special was our tour guide. Erdo did not just show us the ruins, but showed us all the animals who lived around in the adjacent area. He knew the sound they made and we could find them from off in the distance.Tikal is a magical place and Erdo made it even more spectacular. Miguel our driver was fabulous. whatever you pay these two you should pay them more. Take this trip you won’t be disappointed.

Our guide, Luiz, was knowledgeable, friendly, and charismatic. The whole experience was great for us staying in Guatemala City, as it allowed us to "do" Tikal in a single day without procuring additional accommodation. Tikal itself is quite incredible too.

Yes, you will spend time waiting around at the airport and it is a long day… but it is worth it!
We had Erdozain as our guide and I cannot recommend him more highly. His love for the history and nature of Tikal came out in each stop and we saw more birds and monkeys than we could have imagined. Cannot imagine the tour having gone any better.
