Duration: 1 hour

Pass By: Xochimilco, Mexico City Mexico

Xochimilco is an agricultural area located 17 miles (28 km) south of Mexico City where many of the city’s flowers are grown. Back in Aztec times, this valley was once a lake. Learn how the local people, as a way around the lack of farmland, developed islands with floating reed mats loaded with soil and used them as gardens called chinampas. Today, these gardens are an ecological reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Stop At: Floating Gardens of Xochimilco, Southern neighborhood of Xochimilco, Mexico City Mexico

Board a colorful, flat-bottomed boat called a trajinera with your guide, and for an hour take a slow cruise on the chinampa channels, passing by floating gardens of flowers. As your boatman moves the vessel along by pulling a pole through the water, hear from your guide about the characteristic boats, originally hollowed from logs and once used for transportation throughout Mexico.

Pass by other painted vessels transporting passengers and check out the boat vendors selling fresh food. Hungry? Taste a variety of dishes and drinks, such as mole, mixiote (barbequed meat), roasted corn, quesadillas, tacos, carnitas, pulque (milk-colored alcoholic beverage) and micheladas (Mexican beer-based cocktail). (Food and drink purchases are at your own expense.) Hear music like mariachi drifting from other boats, occupied by families and visitors celebrating birthdays, baptisms, weddings, or simply a good time.

Just WOW! Such an amazing day! I loved the history lessons and information they gave us regarding all the areas we stopped at. By far my favorite thing was Xochimilco, the boats and Frida's house. Totally worth it! 10/10! Would recommend!

This tour was so fun. The guides know how to give you information in a fun and educational way. There is bathroom stops along the way. There is also a food stop buffet. The choices were so good. This became a highlight from our trip. The boat ride is a must do. There will be drinks for purchase and mariachi song requests which you should absolutely agree to pay for amongst your boat mates. The frida khalo museum is on your own. You can walk through at your own pace

Tour guide was great. Silver shop great. The Frida museum great, the floating gardens, huge disappointment. No floating gardens, litter in the water and the bright boats /“ gondolas” were fine. Just don’t expect floating gardens false advertising. The restaurant we were taken to great Mexican food,

Both of my tourist guides were amazing. I felt I went to school, time travelled, drank and partied all in one day. I appreciate this experience. I recommend it, bring waters, sunscreen and a charger. Very comfy bus, great bus driver, bring cash, tip ppl , eat good, ( you pay for your own food)

This was an excellent tour. Our English speaking guide Lily was wonderful, kind and very knowledgeable. The experience at Xochimilco floating on the trajineras listening to mariachi songs could not be beat. We learned some very interesting history about Mexico and the Frida Kahlo museum was also a highlight. It is a full day tour, so we packed lots of water and snacks. Although there are opportunities to stop and buy things, along with a lunch break that was quite good.

Bought this tour because we were looking to do xochimilco, coyocan and frida kahlo all on the same day. Our tour guide, Ruben, was great. There was an option for english or Spanish speaking on the tour. The thing I liked most about this tour is that we weren't split into groups. Ruben would first say the information in English, then repeat it in Spanish. This was the first tour I've had where the guide was able to do this. As I am learning Spanish, it was great to hear it in both languages instead of just English. There are a few recommendations I have, but for this company/tour, not for Ruben. 1. Our first stop was a silver jeweler. I thought this was unnecessary, as there was a less than 5 min video only in spanish without english subtitles of the guy engraving something. Didn't add much. Additionally, when I wanted to look at a piece, I had to track someone down. Then, I asked questions about the bracelet and the girl didn't even know what the stones were. She was guessing. We ended up not buying it, as the prices were a bit high [tourist trap]. 2. We went to the university which was nice, but again, we could have done without it. 3. Then we did xochimilco. This experience would have been better if we did it after lunch/at the end.. as there weren't many food options on the boat and I got a little tipsy from the beer since I hadn't had food since 8am. 4. Coyoacan.. from my previous recommendations about the university and the silver shop, I would have LOVED to have deleted those two to be able to spend more time in this neighborhood. It was lovely. We had a short walk through before entering the frida kahlo museum. After the museum, we didn't have time to explore further. The big bummer from this tour was wishing I had more time in coyoacan. I didn't have time to go to the market or fully explore the streets. The thing is, we definitely had time, if they wouldn't have taken us to the university and/or the silver shop, we would have had a few extra hours to explore coyoacan. Tip: make sure to bring pesos/cash on this tour because the food/drinks/music on the boat is not included and they only accepted cash
