Darwin was originally established as a pioneer outpost with a small harbour port. The climate in Darwin is tropical, and is warm to hot throughout the entire year, with both a wet and a dry season. The city has actually been rebuilt twice, once during World War I following a continuation of Japanese air raids, and then in 1974 following the mass destruction of cyclone Tracy.
