About Capetown Airport in South Africa

Not only the main airport servicing Cape Town, but the second busiest airport in South Africa, the Cape Town International Airport of CPT, is located 20 kilometres to the south east of the city. The airport has two operational runways. The airport provides air transport for around 8.5 million passengers every year.

Prior to 1954, the Wingfield Aerodrome was the only airport of sorts in the area. The airport consists of a central building with both domestic and international terminals under the one roof. The terminal is of a split level type design. Arrivals are based from the lower level, and departures from the upper level. The terminal has 120 check in counters, and 20 self service check in kiosks.

In total there are 5 domestic and 5 international aerobridges to facilitate easy boarding of aircraft. Both the arrival and departure halls have a range of foreign exchange outlets, retail stores, clothing shops, bookshops, grocery stores, souvenir shops and duty free.
