On this trip to the Tambopata Reserve, we will start our trip in a small car, approximately one hour. then we will arrive at the tambopata river there a motorized boat waits us that will take us to our lodge . the trip in motorized boat is approximated to 1 hour in the way we will see biodiversity. There we will spend 2 nights in the middle of the jungle in a comfortable lodge, the attraction of this place is to spot the clay lick of macaws. hundreds of parrots gather to eat the clay . It is a beautiful activity to see them since it is the only place where you can observe also we will have walks in a primary forest where we can see a lot of biodiversity. we will have night walks and much more. after to being 3 days in the amzonia we will be back to the city of Puerto Maldonado in our own transport.
This project was started by a group of peasant families who have decided leave aside activities with a negative impact on the environment (like intensive agriculture and livestock) and work in tourism. These families saw that the place what has always been their home is a paradise of landscapes, biodiversity and cultural experiences. Just south of Playa Carrillo is Punta Islita, home to the Macaw Recovery Network (previously The Ara Project), a conservation organization dedicated to the survival of Costa Rica’s native macaws. Previously extinct in this area of Guanacaste, the Scarlet Macaw is now back!
The site in Punta Islita is home to the organization’s Macaw Refuge and Breeding Center, where rescued or injured birds from both species that can not be released are kept for breeding purposes. Their young are then released into the wild.
Over 50 Scarlet Macaws have been released, creating the now famous Wild Scarlet Macaw Reserve, a must see when visiting the Nicoya Peninsula.
